How do I fix an active partition boot problem in Windows XP?

Q. I have an HP laptop with Windows XP on it. I went into the "Disk Management" menu to assign a letter to a drive, and it made an active partition on my hard drive (I didn't select this). Now when I try to start the computer, Windows won't boot. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Do I need to use a Windows XP boot CD, or is there another way to fix this? Thank you!

A. You can use a Windows XP CD as others have posted, or you can use Ubuntu. Download Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit:

Boot the Ubuntu CD using the "Try Ubuntu without any changes to your computer":

Once Ubuntu is booted to the desktop, open up a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T:

Type this and hit enter:

sudo gparted

Set the boot flag to your windows partition. Your windows partition should be labeled sda1 if you only have one partition and one hard disk. If you have more than one partition, you'll have to select the right one. You can tell usually based on how big the partition is. For example, you remember your C:\ drive was 60GB, so you know the partition that is your C:\ drive should be around 60GB. Right click on the partition you want to set active, go to "Manage Flags", check "Boot", and hit Apply (the green checkmark):

How do I fix my Windows XP setup problems?
Q. Recently, my brother attempted to install Windows XP on my old laptop. Unfortunately, he 'skipped' parts of the installation and now XP will not setup. Is there any way I can reinstall XP properly or fix this problem without pulling money out of my wallet?

A. Turn off your computer.
Turn your computer back on.
Keep tapping either f10, f11, f12 or esc (varies on comp) or you can tap them all.
Its going to show a boot menu scroll to boot from CD (make sure your windows CD is in your com)
And install from there. If you have any other trouble let me know

what is the best software for health of windows xp?
Q. i need a software which check the main and original files of my windows xp and fix or replace tham.it had better fix my window's problems and absences.i also hope it can manage all of my windows's components....

A. Here is a software that I use, antivirus program from Beijing, China. Used by the Govt., Of China. You pay a one time fee for life of $29.99 and you get daily updates and all new versions for life. Plus excellent support direct from the developers.

Not only does it have state of the art technology that is light years ahead of any other antivirus program. Twister Trojan Antivirus will also fix all of the problems that you mentioned in your question. (I have used this software for over ten years and never had one virus).

You can evaluate for thirty days with a thirty day free registration key when you download and install. After thirty days you must make the one time purchase.

PS: You can only run one antivirus or you will have serious conflict with your system. So if you have an antivirus installed either remove or turn off while you are performing the evaluation.
